Meet Amy Nasamran, PhD, Psychologist in Lansing, Mi

Guiding You With the Permission to do Things Differently

Not your Regular Psychologist

Dr. Amy Nasamran

You’re tired of trying to fit yourself or your child into a box. If you’re looking for the tools to change that, you’ve found your way to the right place.

I’m Dr. Amy, a psychologist based in Lansing, MI. I work with bright, busy, and intelligent kids, their parents, college students, and millennials who — just like you — are tired of trying to fit themselves into a mold.

Maybe you’ve been feeling like you (or your child) are built differently for a world that prioritizes normalcy and sameness. Maybe you’re a little “Type A,” like me, usually on top of it but lately juggling too much at school or work.

I get what it’s like to have the potential to succeed but to want to do things your own way. Let’s team up and help you pave that path. I’ll be your guide and sidekick, helping you strengthen parent-child relationships, improve emotion regulation and coping, reduce stress and anxiety, and achieve that ever-elusive work-life balance.

You’ve set high standards for yourself, whether as parent or a career-driven professional. My goal as a psychologist is to help give you the time, tools, and support to get there:

  1. Time that you can rely on each week to prioritize your mental health goals

  2. Effective, science-backed tools to help you achieve them

  3. Support to listen, guide, and gently challenge you or your child to be the best, authentic versions of yourselves

They told me I should choose, but I couldn’t

I work with kids and adults

With training in child and career psychology, I have the unique ability to support young children, parents, and adults.

Why Kids?

My education, training, and over 15 years of experience working with young kids and neurodivergent children in schools, hospitals, and the community helps me partner with parents to support kids with unique needs.

If you’re a parent, I know you don’t have the time or energy to keep trying the common parenting tips from books and social media that don’t work for your child. When we work together, you can trust that you’ll learn effective, science-backed tools, individualized to help your child feel calm and cooperative at home.

Why ADULTS?

With firsthand experience, I understand the unique pressures that come with being on a long and demanding career road — and what it’s like trying to juggle the rest of life simultaneously. My research as a psychologist has also focused on helping young adults successfully transition to work.

I know this part of life can be exciting but also bring some overwhelming changes and responsibilities. Whether you’re in college, graduate school, or starting your career, you can trust that you’ll not only be working with someone who gets it, but has also been through it.

Ready to prioritize You?

What makes me different?

Here’s what it’s like to work with me.

High Touch

I maintain a small caseload so that I can provide high-quality, personalized care to every client. When you choose to work with me, you’ll always get me. I answer every e-mail and phone call myself. My clients always have direct access to me. I prepare for every session with your individual goals in mind and keep up with the latest research and training to do so.

Action-Based

Talking about thoughts and feelings can be helpful in therapy, but I believe real learning and change happens beyond that. My approach values doing — taking action and practicing. We won’t spend too much time just talking about “how that made you feel.” Instead, my goal is to equip you with effective tools that you can practice in your daily life and turn into healthy, lasting habits.

Data-Driven

As a psychologist, research and science are important in my work. I’m familiar with the science behind each therapy approach I carefully select to use with my clients. I’ll often use data to help us track progress in your care.

Convenience

I’m working completely virtually from the comfort of my home, so you get to, too! With online therapy, you can eliminate the commute from your already busy schedule, wear comfies, and be able to learn new skills in your everyday routine and environment. (Guest appearances from pets are always welcomed.)

A Bit More Info

COMMUNITY

As a community supervisor, I help train doctoral psychology students and hold an adjunct faculty position at the MSU Psychological Clinic. I also serve on the Michigan Psychological Association’s Advocacy Task Force, where I advocate on state-based issues affecting quality psychological and mental health care for Michiganders.

RESEARCH

Outside of my clinical work, I’m also involved in several research projects as a psychologist at Michigan State University, including the RISE Study in the MSU Autism Lab and the Kid Power study on early childhood anxiety.

THE FUN STUFF

Having a healthy work-life balance is an ongoing work in progress for me, too, but I have to practice what I teach! When I’m not with clients, you might find me out on a walk with my rescue dog, Aggie, at a MSU football game, struggling through a HIIT class at the gym, reading a mystery thriller, or (admittedly) watching a guilty-pleasure reality show on Netflix (okay, Bravo).
