YOU’VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Hi, I’m Dr. Amy Nasamran

As a psychologist I work with bright and busy minds that think, see, and feel things differently in our everyday world.

Having a brain that works and thinks in unique and complex ways can be both a gift and come with its own challenges, especially in the stress of today’s noisy, messy, fast-paced world. Although your challenges aren’t always visible on the outside, a mind that seems to always be “on” can be quick to burn out.

I provide neurodiversity-affirming therapy based in Lansing, MI online across the U.S. With training in both child and adult therapy, I work with children, their parents, and adults to guide and equip you with new tools — customized to your needs — to feel less stressed, find balance, and be your best authentic self.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Neurodiversity-affirming therapy is an approach that’s about recognizing, respecting, and harnessing individual brain differences, not “fixing” or “curing” them. Even though the medical and psychological field haven’t quite caught up all the way yet (“deficit” and “disorder” are still in many names!), neurodiversity-affirming therapy is about celebrating individual strengths and differences and accommodating needs in a world that wasn’t designed for these different ways of thinking and learning.

  • Neurodivergent is a term used to refer to a person who identifies as having a brain that works and thinks differently than what’s considered typical. Common neurodivergent conditions are autism and ADHD, as well as many others (OCD, learning differences, giftedness, sensory processing differences, and any other neurological difference).

  • I work with both children and adults, as well as parents seeking support for their neurodivergent children. Neurodiversity is a lifespan experience! I work with children as young as 2 years old, college students, and late-diagnosed autistic and ADHD men and women.

  • I’m based in Lansing, Michigan, but I can provide virtual therapy to clients across the United States in any state that’s part of PSYPACT. Click here to see if I can work with clients in your state.

  • Yes, many, many research studies have shown that online therapy is effective for both kids and adults, addressing a variety of goals (reducing anxiety and depression, improving executive functioning skills, teaching parent-training skills to support neurodiverse children, etc.).
